July 18 - August 8
This beginner's drawing course will focus on the distinct ways to look at the world to improve drawing from life. While drawing is often confused with a talent or innate ability, in reality it is a knowable process that anyone can learn to do successfully. By shifting how you look, and specifically what you focus on when you look, drawing becomes less a confusing mystery and more a pleasurable and fulfilling activity. All materials will be provided, however, you can add-on a sketchbook or bring your own.
David West is an artist living in Birmingham with over 20 years of art teaching experience. He has an MFA in printmaking, has been a bookmaker for about a dozen years and is a drawing specialist. His work is a mixture of observation and contemplation exploring the world around him. There are very few things he would rather do than sit with a good friend, a good sketchbook, and see what there is to draw.
