ceramics Studio

In our ceramics studio, not only do we make bowls, mugs, figurines, pots, unique sculptures, and more—but we teach you how to make them, too. We have an active studio membership for the use of our facility, as well as a regular schedule of introductory classes in our studio.  Every student that takes a class leaves with several of their own pieces and the skills to build on the next time they find themselves in a studio. intro To Ceramics:

Intro to Ceramics: Throwing

Four Sessions over four weeks
Price: $140
Supply fee: $20 (up to 10lbs clay)
Pre-requisite: None
Ages: 16+ (12 and up are welcome if signed up with an adult)

Learn the basics of creating your own ceramic pieces from local ceramists Jessica Russell or Lewis Denver. Over a four-week course, we will focus on throwing clay on the wheel, trimming your pieces, and glazing to make your work unique. This class is great for beginners and helpful for those with limited experience working with clay. All materials & tools will be provided.


Intro to Ceramics: Handbuilding with Slabs

Price: $115 (three sessions)
Supply fee: $20 (includes up to 10lbs clay)
Pre-requisite: None
Ages: 16+ (12 and up are welcome if signed up with an adult)

Learn the basics of ceramics while exploring handbuilding with Jess of Jenkies Studio. The first session will focus on the basics of slab building and sculpting methods to create mugs and pitchers patterns, followed by a second session of building on to these skills by adding elements & creating patterns of your own. Finish by exploring various surface textures and glazes to complete your pieces.

This class will cover the basic terminology and techniques of handbuilding, so it’s ideal for both beginners and those who've completed Ceramics: Throwing. Kids 12 and up are when enrolled with an adult.

Throwing II

Three Sessions over three weeks
Price: $115
Supply fee: $20 (up to 10lbs clay)
Pre-requisite: Intro to Ceramics: Throwing or previous instruction on the wheel
Ages: 16+ (12 and up are welcome if signed up with an adult)

Hop back into the studio with another session on the wheel! Over this three-night course, Jessica Russell will work with you on your throwing technique & build upon the skills learned in the beginner's class. You will learn different techniques to get closer to creating the forms that you envision and how to attach pieces together to add accents to your work.

This class will start right up with throwing so previous instruction on the wheel is beneficial whether it is our Intro to Ceramics: Throwing or an introductory class elsewhere.

Intermediate: Throwing for Uniformity - Mugs & Bowls Sets

Three Sessions over three weeks
Price: $115
Supply fee: $20 (up to 10lbs clay)
Pre-requisite: proficiency with throwing
Ages: 16+

Learn different throwing techniques and practices to create more uniform pieces. Within this 3 session course, you will gain tips and tricks to create repetitive forms on the wheel. We will work on planning and creating your different sets, improving throwing skills, along with adding in hand building components to your work to make the pieces more visually connected. This class is designed for those with comfortability with wheel throwing, but is also helpful for those with limited experience to create more consistency within your thrown pieces.
Current studio members will receive a Bring Your Own Clay discount and will be able to finish pieces after last class, non members will have their pieces glazed for them to pick up.

Handbuilding with Coils

Price: $140 (four sessions)
Supply fee: $20 (includes up to 10lbs clay)
Pre-requisite: some ceramics experience
Ages: 16+ (12 and up are welcome if signed up with an adult)

Explore another method of hand building in this beginner/intermediate level coil building course with Jess Jenkins. In this class, students will focus on creating one larger, more complex vessel over the course of four weeks. This piece may be sculptural or functional, abstract or more classic in its composition. Coils offer loads of building flexibility, so students will be able to get creative designing their own pieces vases, jars, bowls, and sculptural works like animal heads/busts. Come prepared with a sketch or general vision for your final goal.

Our first class will begin with a demonstration on forming coils and building the base of your form. As classes progress we will continue to build your form and learn how to decorate the vessels with texture, handles, and other embellishments.

This class is ideal if you have had a bit of ceramics experience and are looking to expand your skills.
